Lesson 1: Navigation

This lesson introduces the new User Interface and focuses on the Ribbon, the Get Started panes, and the Recently Visited menu.

What You Will Learn
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
 Describe the Ribbon implementation in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011
 Explain the functionality of the Get Started panes
 Describe how to access the Recently Visited menu and explain how the data is stored

Introduction
The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 user interface has received many improvements for this release. When you log into the application you will notice the changes instantly. The addition of the Get Started Pane, Information Bar and the Ribbon are just a few of the changes. There are many other improvements that we will cover over the next lessons.

Ribbon

In previous versions of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, commands are located inside forms and sometimes they could be hard to find for non-power users. To make the commands more discoverable, the Ribbon displays the commands in easy-to-find places. This helps reduce the number of clicks necessary to carry out a particular action.

Ribbon Commands on the Grid

The following commands now appear in the entity grids, as well as the form.
 Attach a File
 Add a Note
 Create Activity (all the activity types)
 Cancel Case and Resolve Case (Incidents)
 Mark as Won and Mark as Lost Opportunity (Opportunity)
 Convert Lead (Lead)
This change helps you reduce the clicks you do every day. You will be able to perform these actions from the grid versus opening each record.

Enhanced Tooltips
When you hover over ribbon buttons, the controls display enhanced tooltips. This allows more information to be displayed while working in the application.

Hide the Ribbon
Hide the ribbon by clicking on the arrow in the top right corner of the application. The ribbon is only hidden during the user's session.

::Note - The ribbon cannot be collapsed by default.
::Important - Not all pages in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 will have a ribbon. For example, pages in the Settings areas, which are not commonly accessed by end users, will not have a ribbon.
Those that do not have a ribbon will have a toolbar similar to that of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
